Autumn 2025 Updates

Forestry News

In September we completed selection harvesting a cut block just near Jackpine FSR. This work entailed thinning the existing forest and retaining the largest trees.

We conducted our third burn on the Gallagher’s grasslands this fall. These burns are intended to reinvigorate the grasses and reduce the ingress of trees and invasive plants.

We’ve installed plots to monitor invasive plants post-burn and to help develop a strategy to reduce their numbers over time.

With the help of BC Wildlife Federation, WFN members, we completed the first phase of beaver habitat restoration in a large wetland north of Big White. This work is intended to retain more water in a wetland that has been slowly drying out and to eventually create habitat suitable for beaver.

Our Forestry Crew has been working on a 23 hectare fuel mitigation project in the Upper Glenrosa area near the Telemark Ski area.  This project will add to the 350 hectares already treated in this area over the past decade.
