Spring 2022 updates

Forestry News

way’,

We are presently in the midst of our spring tree planting program.  This year we’re planting approximately 350,000 seedlings consisting of Douglas-fir, Lodgepole Pine, Western Larch, spruce, and Yellow Pine. We try to plant at least three different species on each logged area when it’s ecologically appropriate to do so. We’re thankful for the cool wet spring that we’ve had so far which helps these new seedlings establish and put down some roots before the summer heat.

This summer we’ll continue with our spacing and pruning program in those very dense young stands and wildfire mitigation work in a couple of locations within the Community Forest.

Our logging contractor will be conducting salvage operations on portions of the Mt. Law wildfire.  Of the approximately 1,000 hectares that burned last fall, we’ve identified about 1/10 of that to salvage.  In these salvage areas we try to retain those trees that are still alive and focus only on removing all the but the largest burned trees.
